Best Family Photo Locations in the Perth Hills
The Perth Hills are one of the most beautiful places to photograph families — full of soft light, sweeping views, hidden trails and pockets of nature that feel peaceful and untouched. Whether you love golden fields, cherry blossoms, autumn leaves, bush walking trails or green parks, the Hills offer something for every family.
Below are some of my favourite locations to shoot in — places that give you space to relax, connect, and create those natural, heartfelt images you love.
Orchards In the Perth Hills
With rows of fruit trees, soft golden light, and seasonal blossoms that change the entire landscape, they are a beautiful spot for families wanting something a little more magical and unique.
Whether the orchard is in full bloom or showing off its warm autumn tones, it creates a backdrop that feels natural, romantic and full of life — perfect for families who want images that feel warm, joyful and connected.
Expect a small entrance fee.
A Favourite Perth Hills Photo Spot
One of my favourite places to photograph in the Perth Hills is a quiet little bush trail where the light filters softly through the trees. It has this gentle, flattering glow that works in every season, and the whole area feels calm and peaceful.
It’s dog‑friendly, easy to access, and only a very short walk from the carpark, which makes it perfect for families with little ones.
The atmosphere is so natural and relaxed — ideal for those unposed, connected moments I love to capture.
Araluen Botanical Park
This is such a beautiful spot to photograph in.
There’s a little more walking involved here, but the scenery is always worth it — from rich autumn colours to spring flowers and soft green grass in summer. It has a really peaceful feel, with so many pretty corners to explore, and it gives families a gorgeous, natural backdrop all year round.
There is an entry fee to shoot here, but it’s one of the most consistently beautiful locations in the Hills.
Falls Farm - Lesmurdie
Falls Farm in Lesmurdie is one of those places that really shines when the gardens are in bloom.
In late spring, the jacarandas create the most beautiful purple haze, and when the roses are flowering the whole space feels soft, colourful and romantic.
Outside of those blooming seasons it’s much more simple and bare, so I tend to only photograph here when the flowers are out. When it’s in full colour though, it’s a gorgeous spot for families who love a relaxed, country‑style feel without needing to travel far.
Lesmurdie Falls
Lesmurdie Falls is one of the most dramatic spots in the Perth Hills, especially at sunset when the whole valley glows. If you’re up for a bit of an adventure, the walk down to the base of the falls can be absolutely worth it — the views, the light, and the sense of space are beautiful.
It’s a longer, more active walk, which actually works really well for families with energetic kids because I photograph along the way, capturing all the little moments as we explore.
It’s not the best option for anyone with mobility concerns, prams, or very young toddlers, and it can get very busy on weekends. For the most relaxed experience (and the best chance of having the space to ourselves), weekdays are definitely recommended.
For families who love being outdoors and don’t mind a bit of movement, it’s a stunning location with so much variety.
Why I Love Photographing Families in the Perth Hills
The Hills have a softness that’s hard to find anywhere else. The light filters through the trees beautifully, the landscapes feel open and peaceful, and there’s always room for kids to explore and be themselves. Most families tell me they instantly feel more relaxed here — which always shows in the photos.
How to Choose the Right Location for Your Family
One of the best things about photographing in the Perth Hills is that almost every location gives kids the freedom to explore. There’s space to run, pockets of soft light, and plenty of natural textures — so from a practical point of view, all of these spots work beautifully for families.
What really matters is the look and feel you’re drawn to.
If you love soft greenery and gentle light, a quiet nature trail might be perfect. If you’re dreaming of colour, seasonal gardens or orchards can bring that extra bit of magic. If you want something dramatic and adventurous, the falls at sunset create an incredible backdrop. And if you prefer something simple and timeless, open fields or calm bushland always photograph beautifully.
Think about the mood you want your photos to have — soft and romantic, bright and airy, earthy and natural, or bold and scenic. Once you know the feeling you’re after, choosing the right location becomes easy.
And of course, I’m always here to guide you. If you’re unsure, just tell me the kind of images you love and I’ll help you choose the perfect spot for your family.
